What exactly are door handles, handle sets, and hardware?

The term “door handle” refers to all types of handles that are pressed down to open doors. A “door handle set” refers to the visible hardware on a door, i.e., the handle and escutcheon on both sides.

All components that connect the door and frame and enable opening, closing, and locking are referred to as hardware: hinges, locks, door handles, and, for example, DANAmotion.

What are the most popular door handles?

Classic lever handles continue to impress with their clean, simple lines.

Thanks to their ease of use and design, push-pull handles are becoming an increasingly popular choice.

Why is choosing the right door handle important?

For one thing, it is an important design element. A door handle, in all its forms, can serve as a standout feature or complement the door’s design and style. For another, we touch it several times a day. That’s why it should be designed with your ergonomic needs in mind and feel comfortable and easy to grip.

What are the different types of door handles?

We distinguish between “conventional” door handles—commonly referred to as door knobs or latches—push handles, and recessed or shell-shaped handles. There are virtually no limits to what you can choose in terms of shape and finish. From round to square or from short to long, anything is possible. You can also choose from a range of finishes, from stainless steel-like to the trendy matte black. DANA also offers the option of using inlays to extend the door design to the lever or handle—check out the Nizza model, for example.

Which models are best suited for which requirements?

When choosing the right door handle, it’s best to consider the style and function of the doors. For flush-mounted doors, it’s best to choose a flush-mounted door handle, such as a shell-shaped handle, to complete the overall look. That said, the DANA FLATFIX with its ultra-thin escutcheon is always a good fit here as well.

Push handles are very comfortable to use, and different lengths have proven effective. They are the optimal choice, especially in combination with closing systems such as smartclose or DANAmotion. Thus, push handles look great on both conventional doors and sliding doors. If you opt for our INSIDE sliding door and want it to disappear completely into the wall, a shell or recessed handle is required.
