Burglary resistance
A delay that effectively deters intruders.
The security standard of doors is not measured by whether they can generally withstand a break-in attempt or not. What matters far more is how long they can hold out. Visible security measures can act as a deterrent even before an attempt is made. If an attempt is made, the duration is crucial. If the door cannot be opened within a few minutes, there is a high probability that the burglar will give up, as the risk of being discovered increases significantly.
How can you identify “burglar-resistant” doors?
First, the term itself is key. “Security door” is not a protected term—i.e., doors bearing this designation are not required to be tested. In contrast, “burglar-resistant” doors must comply with the relevant standards.
Identification via test labels.
Our side entrance and porch doors are marked with the CE label. You’ll find this in the door rebate. It guarantees European quality and safety standards.
For DANA apartment entry doors, you can easily request the EH label, as they are thoroughly tested by state-approved bodies. You can learn about the benefits of the label and why it’s necessary here.
The resistance classes.
The individual classes are abbreviated as “WK” = resistance class (or RC = resistance class). This specification takes into account the resistance time—that is, how long the door withstands an attack—as well as the types of perpetrators, their methods, and potential burglary tools.
The most important resistance classes for entry doors:
| Resistance Class | Characteristic |
|---|---|
| WK 1 (RC 1 N) | These components offer only minimal protection against the use of prying tools. |
| WK 2 (RC 2 or RC 2 N) | Locked and bolted components are designed to withstand a break-in attempt using simple tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, or wedges for 3 minutes. |
| WK 3 (RC 3) | The locked and bolted components must withstand a break-in attempt using simple tools, as well as an additional screwdriver, a solid crowbar (nail puller), and a hand drill, for 5 minutes. |
